New York Mets and San Francisco Giants Reach Tentative Agreement for Carlos Beltran

Could the Carlos Beltran rumors be coming to a close?  Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi report that the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants have reached a tentative agreement for the All-Star outfielder.  According to the reports, the New York Mets will send Carlos Beltran to the San Francisco Giants for RHP Zack Wheeler.  I talked briefly about Zack Wheeler over the weekend when I took a look at some San Francisco Giants prospects that the New York Mets may have some interest in.  Zack Wheeler actually happened to the be the guy that I was most interested in from the San Francisco Giants and I am currently keeping my fingers crossed that this deal goes through.  The only thing that we are waiting on now is approval from the league and the players to pass their physicals.  Carlos Beltran’s no-trade clause is not expected to nix the deal.  The two things that Carlos Beltran has desired are to stay in the National League and to have a shot at a World Series ring.  Those two desires are fulfilled if this move becomes official.  More analysis will come once the move is made official.  Stay tuned.

The New York Mets (50-51) keep failing to close the gap between themselves and the Atlanta Braves (59-43).  The latter lost their weekend series, but the New York Mets could not handle the Florida Marlins (49-53) this time around either.  The New York Mets took the first game of the series, but gave up leads in the last two games – including the one run lead that they held in the eighth inning of the Sunday finale.  The good news is that David Wright collected six hits – including a homer – in 14 at-bats.

San Francisco Giants Leading the Carlos Beltran Sweepstakes?

Last night, I mentioned that the San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies could be the top three contenders for the New York Mets’ Carlos Beltran.  There are some American League teams in the mix, but a lot of people think that Carlos Beltran will exercise his no-trade clause in order to stay in the National League where he won’t be used as a designated hitter.  Today, Jeff Passan tweets that the San Francisco Giants are the favorites to land Carlos Beltran.  We heard something similar earlier in the week, but the problem was that they did not match up with what the New York Mets were asking for in return.  If the will is big enough on each side though, the two teams will find a way to get a deal done.  If the San Francisco Giants aren’t willing to pay up in prospects, I have no doubt that New York Mets’ GM Sandy Alderson will be happy to move Carlos Beltran to one of the other contending teams pursuing his services.  Let’s take a look at some San Francisco Giants prospects that the New York Mets could be after. Will New York Mets Be Able to Add Young Talent At Trade Deadline?

July 24, 2011

With the trade deadline coming up, the New York Mets have a great opportunity to add some top-of-the-line talent to a farm system that could use an infusion of elite or near elite level talent – even if it is just one prospect.  Until then, we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that the healthy New York Mets prospects can remain that way and continue to produce and that the injured/injury prone New York Mets prospects find a way to get back into the lineup and avoid that ever present injury bug.  Here is this week’s prospect update for the New York Mets. Carlos Beltran Sweepstakes Could Be Three Team Race

The New York Mets’ Carlos Beltran is arguably the biggest name on the trade market this year and the tornado of rumors will continue to swirl until he is moved.  By now, many of us are well aware of Carlos Beltran’s desire to stay in the National League and the contract clause that won’t allow a team to receive draft pick compensation if/when he leaves via free agency this fall.  When the smoke clears, it may be Carlos Beltran’s full no-trade clause that turns out to be the most critical component of a deadline deal.  Peter Gammons believes that Carlos Beltran will hand pick his new team based on which one has the best shot at winning a ring.  According to Gammons, this means the Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies are leading the pack in the Carlos Beltran sweepstakes.
